125 pounds lost
Off the sidelines and back in the game
Trish began gradually gaining weight in her thirties, adding on about 10 pounds a year. As she grew heavier, she started to retreat from much-loved activities, becoming a spectator in her own life. She no longer performed on horseback with her precision drill team. On vacations, she couldn't keep up with her active husband and children, so she stayed home.
Trish researched weight loss surgery for about five years before meeting with Dr. Christian Oakley and deciding the time was right. She was 41 years old and weighed 262 pounds. She was suffering from high blood pressure and anxiety disorders.
Trish underwent Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in 2007, and has since lost 125 pounds. Her high blood pressure and anxiety are gone and she is completely off all medications. Now she’s active and into the thick of life. She and her husband are back in the saddle and out on the square dance floor. Her days on the sidelines are over.
“To make the surgery work, you have to be willing to make the changes and have it right in your head,” Trish says. “If you are, then find a way to do it. You can’t afford not to.”
Trish is supported by the experienced physicians and bariatrics team at St. Luke’s Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Clinic. Our proven track record of favorable outcomes for weight loss surgery, and our comprehensive commitment to high quality bariatric care are why we are an American Society for Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence.
